Description

Highlights

  • Written by activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor, with a foreword by Ijeoma Oluo
  • Explores radical self-love as both a personal practice and a form of collective resistance
  • Connects body shame to systems like racism, ableism, fatphobia, sexism, and transphobia
  • Grounded, accessible writing that blends memoir, cultural analysis, and real tools for change

Sonya Renee Taylor makes a compelling case that how we feel about our bodies is not just personal, it is political. She traces the ways oppressive systems depend on body shame to function, and offers a path toward something more liberatory than self-esteem or body positivity. It is warm, honest, and transformative.

Taylor's framework of radical self-love is not about feeling good in the mirror every day. It is about understanding why we were taught to feel bad in the first place, and using that understanding to heal ourselves and show up differently in the world. The writing is accessible without being watered down, and the second edition adds even more depth to an already essential text.
